Chewing and chewing all day long...the way that a cow does!

Hello! So the other day I was watching Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory, and it dawned on me that there are some horrifying scenes in that movie. I bring it up because I was chewing some gum at work (not like a cow. At least I hope not!) & the Oompa Loompa song about Violet Beauregarde popped into my head. Over all, it was a good movie, but it has some serious potential for scarring people! Do you disagree? Maybe you don't remember this part:

Round the world and home again, that's the sailor's way
Faster faster, faster faster

There's no earthly way of knowing, which direction we are going
There's no knowing where we're rowing, or which way the river's flowing
Is it raining, is it snowing, is a hurricane a–blowing
Not a speck of light is showing, so the danger must be growing
Are the fires of Hell a–glowing, is the grisly reaper mowing
Yes, the danger must be growing, for the rowers keep on rowing
And they're certainly not showing, any signs that they are slowing!

Eep! Is the grisly reaper mowing? Do I look like I wanna know? I think if I were on that ride, I'd cry. Just a little bit. Also, creepy Mr. Slugworth?

Yeah... Has anyone read the book? Was it this terrifying? I have trouble believing that Roald Dahl could write this. Anywho, it was quite a fantastical move with many lessons to be learned:

  • Don't be gluttonous and Greedy like Augustus Gloop, lest you should fall into a river of chocolate
  • Don't be an annoying brat like Veruca Salt, wanting everything you see, unless you also want a  good kick in the pants
  • Don't be like Violet, chomping on your gum... it's triflin'...
  • Don't watch too much TV! You saw what happened to Mike Teevee. Read a book!
  • And I think you will all agree when I say the most important piece of advice is to not get into paddle boats with strange men. Forreals ya'll.
P.S. Another movie with some scary scenes is The Wizard Of Oz. Flying monkeys? Really?
